Saint Francis Community Services is a donor-supported child welfare ministry embracing the Episcopal tradition of service.
Founded by The Rt. Rev. Robert H. “Father Bob” Mize, Jr. in 1945, Saint Francis Academy has a long history of serving children, youths and families in crisis based on the philosophy of Therapy In Christ. It began as the vision of Father Bob, a young Western Kansas Episcopal minister. His dream was to create a place where troubled young men would receive guidance through Therapy In Christ, in a caring family atmosphere, learn responsibility and reclaim their potential.
Beginning as a “boys home” at Ellsworth, Kansas, our services have changed and expanded over more than 60 years. Today Saint Francis Academy is a leader among child welfare agencies providing a continuum of care that addresses the overall needs of the children and families we serve.
The mission of Saint Francis remains relatively unchanged since 1945: to be an instrument of healing for children, youths and families in spirit, mind and body, so they live responsibly and productively with purpose and hope.
